Default How Called Targeting Really Works

I did a search of this forum and found several posts that discuss the issue of Called Targets and the T function, but frankly, much of the information I found was wrong, out of date and inconsistent, with wildly differing descriptions of keypresses and behaviors. What I've culled from all my reading is that there was some functionality in beta that is no longer present to the same degree in release and is poorly and inconsistently documented at that.

I'm hoping to clarify this issue with this single thread with current, accurate information, mostly because my wife and I have been frustrated trying to learn a simple method for assisting, and no one in the game we've spoken to has a clue about how this works. Apologies if this is old news to some of you, but trust me, everyone I've spoken to has been just as confused as I am about this.

The cardboard insert included with the game describes the left Control key function as "Show Targets", and the T key function as "Called Target". The game's keyboard configuration interface (Menu/Options/Control Setup) has an entry called "Show Targets" that is assigned by default to "Left Ctrl". It also has an entry for something called "Target Priority" that is assigned by default to T. This "Target Priority" is the function that you want to use to assist on a called target and should be assigned as desired.

Here's how things actually work today in the game using the default key assignments. Assume Player A and Player B are grouped together with two henchmen in the group.

If Player A targets a red-named mob (say, a Grawl) and then holds down the Left Ctrl key and *simultaneously* attacks using the assigned "Do It" key (Spacebar by default, but mouse also will work), Player A will announce in chat "I'm attacking Grawl" and will begin attacking it, as will both henchmen. At the same time, a target icon will appear in the group window next to Player A's name. If Player B then clicks on the target icon or, alternatively, hits the T key, Player B will acquire Player A's target as his own. Player B won't automatically begin attacking, but he may choose to attack.

Player A and Player B can both call targets in this manner and both will get target icons next to their name, and the henchmen will attack the most recently called target.

Note that if Player A instead holds down *both* the Shift and Left Ctrl keys while simultaneously hitting the Do It key, he will instead announce "I'm targeting Grawl" and will not attack. In this case, Player B will still see a target icon appear and will be able to acquire the same target by hitting the T key or clicking on the target icon.

There are bugs, delays, and inconsistencies that occasionally threw me off while testing this. Please feel free to add to this thread any refinements, corrections, or further information you determine on this.

Thanks!
